strawberry tres leches trifle

I hosted an event (a psychic party but I’ll post more on that later) at my home and wanted to make a dessert with the strawberries that I had purchased from the truck. It had to be lower calorie and healthy.  What I decided on was this Strawberry Tres Leches Trifle, which I had found on Pinterest. Luckily, my pinned trifle came from another healthy blog, Amee’s Savory Dish.

In Malibu, you know that spring has arrived once you start seeing signs with a large strawberry posted on telephone poles along the coast. These signs signal that a truck is parked along Pacific Coast Highway, filled with farm fresh strawberries for sale.

Be sure to bake the cake, then fill with the tres leeches (three milks) the day before, and refrigerate overnight. This process allows the sponge cake to absorb the sweet milky mixture, creating a luxuriously creamy and moist cake. Unfortunately, I missed this process and made my cake the day of the event. Fortunately, no one knew the difference – the trifle was still a crowd pleaser.

There’s nothing better than a dessert made with perfectly ripe farm-fresh strawberries. This is now one of my favorite strawberry desserts. This trifle was so delicious and such a hit at my event, that I made it on Easter too. But this time, I made sure to bake the cake the night before.
