In Malibu, there isn’t a donut shop to be found. This could be due to healthy lifestyle chosen by so many who live in Malibu. In order to pick-up donuts for my donut loving family, I have to drive to Santa Monica or the Valley. Yes, my family does love and eat donuts, however I try my best not to give into the temptation. Instead, I opt for baked donuts, such as these chocolate donuts with a chocolate ganache topping, which do not contain processed sugar and are gluten-free. In fact, if you follow me on pinterest, you’ll see that I’m often pinning baked donuts. They are my latest obsession.
Now, I’m not gluten-free, but I love the idea of replacing processed flour with coconut flour, plus I love the moisture that coconut flour provides, as well as the health benefits, such as being high in fiber and packed with protein. Not only are these chocolate donuts gluten-free, but also they are grain-free, processed sugar-free and nut-free. However, if you add the sprinkles like I did, your going to get a bit of processed sugar, but how can you resist adding sprinkles to a chocolate donut? Hopefully, Malibu will soon get a baked donut shop and serve healthy donuts like these! I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
